China's efforts to diversify its imports and exports require both
发布日期:2019-06-19
Faced with the prevailing unilateralism and trade protectionism, China is responding with ever greater openness.
An executive meeting of the State Council, chaired by Chinese premier li keqiang, called for greater openness and more diversified import and export, chinanews.com said Tuesday. The meeting pointed out that the expansion of diversified international market with enterprises as the main body is conducive to the steady improvement of foreign trade and the stable economic operation.
In fact, China's import and export diversification trend has emerged. According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs, China's exports to the eu, asean, Japan and other major trading partners increased steadily in the first five months of this year. Trade with One Belt And One Road countries is also growing.
Especially under the background of sino-us trade friction, diversification has provided support for the steady development of China's foreign trade. Wang xiaosong, a researcher at the national development and strategy research institute of renmin university of China, told China news service that since the beginning of this year, the proportion of China's exports to the eu has exceeded the proportion of exports to the United States.
Mr. Wang further pointed out that in the past, many companies were overly dependent on single markets, such as the U.S., which they considered stable and lucrative for exports. But in the current trade environment, the stability of the relevant markets is no longer there, which requires companies to adjust their business strategies.
Speaking of diversified development direction, bai Ming, deputy director of the international market research institute of the Chinese academy of international trade and economic cooperation, believes that China is actively adjusting the layout of the international market, expanding the market of third countries and countries along the "One Belt And One Road". From a high level, foreign trade enterprises should accelerate transformation and upgrading, open up more new areas, and cultivate and build new advantages in international trade competition.
While bringing the "made in China" brand to the rest of the world, China has also opened its doors to high-quality imported goods and services.
In fact, imported goods are now woven into the daily lives of Chinese people. Avocados from the United States, cherries from Chile, red shrimp from Argentina... The table was set with delicacies from afar; French perfume, Japanese cosmeceuticals, Korean masks... The bottles and jars on the dressing table are printed with various words. So much so that one Chinese netizen joked that if all the foreign goods in his family were taken away, "at least half of them would be empty".
In 2018, spurred by a series of strong import expansion policies, such as lowering import tariffs and hosting the first China international import expo, China's import volume exceeded us $2 trillion for the first time, a record high. From 2017 to 2018, China's import volume increased by more than 200 billion us dollars, which is close to the total import volume of Switzerland in a year.
Zhao ping, director of the international trade research department at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, pointed out that expanding the import of high-quality goods and services with distinctive features and enriching domestic consumption options not only conforms to the current trend of China's consumption upgrading, but also accelerates the pace of upgrading the consumption structure. At the same time, by expanding imports, China is assuming more responsibilities as a major country, and the world can share its development dividend.
To promote the diversification of import and export, the meeting put forward a number of measures, including actively promoting the signing of high-standard free trade agreements and regional trade agreements with more countries. We will expand comprehensive pilot areas for cross-border e-commerce. We will encourage enterprises to improve their international marketing networks and promote the export of products that meet the needs of the international market. We will actively increase imports. We will promote balanced, steady and sound development of imports and exports.
It is worth mentioning that at present, China is accelerating the construction of a network of high-standard free trade zones based on neighboring areas and radiating "One Belt And One Road" and facing the whole world. At present, China has signed free trade agreements with more than 10 countries along the "One Belt And One Road" routes, including asean, Singapore and Pakistan. China is actively promoting negotiations on the regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP) and free trade agreements with Israel, Sri Lanka and other countries.
Wang shouwen, vice minister of commerce, recently revealed that China will continue to accelerate the construction of free trade zones and give full play to the role of free trade agreements. We will support enterprises in expanding diversified markets and increasing import and export of goods and services on a larger scale. (source: China economic net)
